Federation of Community Organisations in South Tyneside (FOCAST)
FOCAST has been supporting community associations since 1974. The aim of the federation is to provide regular contact between community associations, advice and support etc. (See http://www.focast.org.uk/).

Federation of Community Work Training Groups (FCWTG)
The network in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales for individuals, organisations and groups with an interest in community development learning and training. (Further information at http://www.communitydevelopmentlearning.org.uk/Federation3.htm).

Final Accounts
FINANCE. The financial statements for a business for the period of account, normally a year. They comprise the profit and loss of income and expenditure account and supporting schedules.

Fiscal Year (FY)
FINANCE. A twelve-month period for which an organization plans the use of its funds. A Fiscal Year may or may not coincide with the calendar year of January 1 through December 31.

Form of Mandate
FINANCE. Document needed in order to set up a bank account. A copy of the group's constitution is also required. (See VAN briefing no. 26; an overview on constitutions is given in VAN Briefing no. 55)

Foundation
An institution founded and supported by an endowment. Some foundations may use the terms Fund, Trust, or Endowment in their names. These terms indicate no legal or operational differences. Foundations usually are tax exempt organizations.

Foyer Federation
Foyers have been helping disadvantaged young people achieve independence since 1992. There are now 100 Foyers in the UK, with many more in development. (See http://www.foyer.net/).

Fund
Another term for Endowment.

Funding Advice Workers Network (FAWN)
The email list for funding advice workers. The intention is for it to be a forum for: regional meetings to post discussions and debates on current issues, individuals to post queries about giving funding advice people to share good practice in giving funding advice etc. (See NACVS webpage at http://www.nacvs.org.uk/nacvs/networking/fawn.shtm).

Funding Information North East (FINE)
A project of the Local Development Agencies (LDAs) in the North East of England (Northumberland, Tyne & Wear, County Durham / Darlington and Teesside) established in the mid 1980's mainly to research potential sources of funding for the voluntary and community sector in the North East of England. FINE has published the 7th edition of its North East Guide to Grants for Voluntary Organisations (2003/2004). (To order contact FINE at http://www.fine.org.uk).

Further Education Funding Council for Wales (FEFCW)
Established in May 1992 under the Further and Higher Education Act 1992 as an executive Non-Departmental Public Body, it is sponsored by the National Assembly for Wales. The Council is responsible for securing the provision of facilities for further education (FE) and for the administration of funds made available by the National Assembly for Wales in support of further education in FE sector institutions, higher education institutions and sponsored bodies in Wales. The Council assumed responsibility for funding further education in Wales on 1 April 1993. (See http://www.wfc.ac.uk/fefcw/).
