National Association of Citizens Advice Bureaux (NACAB)
The NACBA is a registered charity reliant on volunteers. Citizens Advice Bureaux help solve problems which are central to people's lives, including debt and consumer issues, benefits, housing, legal matters, employment, and immigration. Advisers can help fill out forms, write letters, negotiate with creditors and represent clients at court or tribunal. (See http://www.nacab.org.uk).
National Association of Councils for Voluntary Service -England (NACVS)
Network of over 300 Councils for Voluntary Service (CVS) throughout England. They help to promote voluntary and community action by supporting their member CVS and by acting as a national voice for the local voluntary and community sector. (Visit them at http://www.nacvs.org.uk/nacvs/index.shtm)
National Association of Volunteer Bureaux (NAVB)
Now known as Volunteer Development England, NAVB is the membership association of Volunteer Development Agencies - local voluntary organisations rooted in urban and rural communities throughout the country. (See http://www.vde.org.uk).
National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO)
The National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO) 'works with and for the voluntary sector in England by providing information, advice and support and by representing the views of the sector to government and policy-makers'. (Contact them at http://www.ncvo-vol.org.uk/).
National Council for Voluntary Youth Services (NCVYS)
A network of over 150 national voluntary youth organisations and regional and local youth networks, NCVYS supports since 1936 voluntary and community organisations that work with young people. (See http://www.ncvys.org.uk/).
National Lottery Commission -Lottery Regulator (NLC)
A new non-departmental public body, which began on the 1 April 1999 to regulate the National Lottery, a task formerly carried out by the Office of the National Lottery (OFLOT). (See http://www.natlotcomm.gov.uk).
Negligence
LEGAL. A failure to conform your conduct in a situation to the level of care expected of the hypothetical reasonable person, where that failure is the proximate cause of injury to another. (See legal glossary for volunteers at http://www.ptialaska.net/~jdewitt/vlh/Supplement/VLHGlossary.html).
Neighbourhood Renewal
Term used by the Government when referring to poor and deprived areas that are part of a plan of development. Local Strategic Partnerships (see above) will be asked to set out such a plan for positive change.
Neighbourhood Renewal Fund (NRF)
The Neighbourhood Renewal Fund 'assists neighbourhood organizations representing residents and other local interests, in strengthening local capacity and revitalizing designated urban neighbourhoods through a broad range of locally planned and supported initiatives'. Net
FINANCE. The results after deductions. The true income of sales carrying VAT is arrived at after deducting the VAT element.
Net Assets
FINANCE. The difference between an organisation's assets and its liabilities. Although voluntary organisations do not exist to make money, they do work to build and maintain reasonable reserves of net assets. Growing its net assets helps a voluntary organisation outpace inflation and sustain future program activities.
New Commitment to Neighbourhood Renewal
The Government's national long term plan for helping areas experiencing problems of crime, poor education, housing, unemployment and ill health (See Neighbourhood Renewal Fund).
New Deal for Communities (NDC)

New Opportunities Fund (NOF)
A Lottery Distributor created to award grants to education, health and environment projects throughout the UK. (Further information at http://www.nof.org.uk/).
NGfL Scotland Communities Channel
The Communities Channel of the National Grid for Learning Scotland web service aims to provide support to those promoting the use of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) in the community. (Contact them at http://www.ngflscotland.gov.uk/communities).
NLCB
abbr. National Lottery Charities Fund. Now known as Community Fund.
Non Departmental Public Body (NDPB)
A NDPB is a body that has a role in the process of national Government, but is not a Government Department or part of one.NDPBs are split into those with executive and those with advisory functions. Executive bodies usually carry out prescribed functions within Government guidelines, and usually receive some sort of funding from their sponsoring Departments. Advisory bodies are set up by Ministers to advise them and their Departments on particular matters and do not normally have a budget. (See http://www.mod.uk/issues/open_government/ndpbs.htm).
Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO)
Any voluntary citizens' group which is organized on a local, national or international level. Task-oriented and driven by people with a common interest, NGOs perform a variety of service and humanitarian functions, bring citizen concerns to Governments, advocate and monitor policies and encourage political particpation through provision of information. Some are organized around specific issues, such as human rights, environment or health. They provide analysis and expertise, serve as early warning mechanisms and help monitor and implement international agreements. Their relationship with offices and agencies of the United Nations system differs depending on their goals, their venue and the mandate of a particular institution. Non-profit Corporation
A corporation which is not intended to operate for profit, but rather is barred by law from making a profit. Not to be confused with a charitable corporation, which is a special kind of non-profit corporation.
North East Social Enterprise Partnership (NESEP)
Officially launched on 5th March 2003, the NESEP is to act as the North Eastern voice for social enterprise, promoting its importance on a national stage through a new regional framework.

North Tyneside Voluntary Organisations Development Agency (VODA)
VODA promotes and supports the development of the voluntary and

Northern Ireland Council for Voluntary Action (NICVA)
The representative body for voluntary, community and charitable groups in Northern Ireland. (See http://www.nicva.org/, and contact Voluntary Arts Ireland at www.vaireland.org for information on the voluntary arts).
Northumberland Strategic Partnership (NSP)
The NSP 'brings together the key stakeholders and agencies in the County within a supportive framework in which all Partners play an active part in seeking to overcome structural economic change, social deprivation in the County and its communities and in championing local solutions to local, Countywide, national and international issues'.
