Umbrella body
An organisation set up to support organisations rather than end users. Voluntary Arts Network is an umbrella body that supports voluntary arts and crafts groups, along with artform- and community-specific umbrella bodies.
Undeserved Community
Those communities in which people lack arts programs, services, or resources due to geography, economic conditions, cultural background, socio-political circumstances, disability, age or other demonstrable factors.
Unincorporated Association
In Scotland, this is a joint venture between two or more people and does not have legal identity separate from its members, i.e., they are personally responsible for any obligations or debts of the association. Yet it is not appropiate if you plan to undertake much trading, employ staff or receive public money. (See VAN briefing no. 23).
